Consultant-Led TOE Skills Immersion
From Uncertain to Confident in TOE
A three-phase hands-on programme designed to help you acquire views, interpret findings, and apply TOE in theatre, critical care and acute practice.
1:4 consultant-to-delegate ratio
Continuous, real-time supervision — not diluted group observation.
~12 hours supervised probe time
More hands-on exposure than most clinicians get in months.
Maximum 4 delegates per cohort
The small group is the product — because probe skills need correction.
17-guide practical playbook
A structured reference to support preparation, scanning and interpretation.
Next cohort: 10–11 October 2026
Only 4 seats
Previous cohorts: Fully booked
Most TOE courses give exposure.
This programme builds real clinical performance.
Skills, Not Just Attendance
This is not a lecture-based TOE course.
It is a consultant-led, simulator-based skills programme designed to help you turn TOE knowledge into safer, more structured bedside practice.
Not hours of lectures with brief probe exposure
Not passive observation from the back of the room
Not a certificate-driven day with little practical consolidation
Built to develop confidence, structure and clinically useful TOE decision-making.
Delegate Testimonial
“This changed how I practise TOE.”
A senior anaesthetic fellow shares how the EchoMasters Hands-On TOE Programme changed his confidence – and what made the supervised practice environment different.
Not passive observation
Not lecture-heavy exposure
Structured repetition, direct feedback and practical TOE skill-building
The Real Problem
Why many clinicians struggle to become confident in TOE
You can attend courses. You can watch videos. You can read protocols.
But in real clinical practice, TOE confidence is usually limited by the things that are hardest to access:
Limited probe access
Rare simulator time
Inconsistent feedback
No structured pathway from image acquisition to clinical decision-making
So under pressure, clinicians may hesitate — not because they lack knowledge, but because they have not had enough structured, corrected repetition.
The Outcome
What actually changes after this programme
The goal is not to make unrealistic promises after two days. The goal is to give you structure, repetition and correction – so your next TOE learning curve is safer, clearer and more purposeful.
This programme supports structured TOE learning. It does not replace local supervision, workplace competency assessment or formal accreditation requirements.
Why This Programme Works
Inside the 2-Day TOE Immersion
Built around probe time, correction and repetition
This is not passive observation. The programme is designed to keep you actively scanning, interpreting and correcting technique throughout the two days.
~12 hours supervised probe time
Concentrated hands-on practice across two focused training days.
Continuous consultant feedback
Real-time correction of probe handling, view acquisition and scanning sequence.
Repetition-based skill building
The same core skills revisited until the movement, anatomy and image logic begin to connect.
Real clinical scenario training
Simulator-based pathology recognition and interpretation for theatre, ITU and acute-care contexts.
More supervised probe time than many clinicians get in months.
Funding Support
You may be able to use your NHS study budget
Many clinicians do not realise that hands-on echocardiography training may be eligible for local study budget or CPD funding.
EchoMasters programmes have previously been approved for study budget support, particularly for clinicians working in anaesthesia, ITU, cardiology and acute care.
The funding guide helps you:
understand whether study budget support may apply
prepare a clear request for your supervisor or education team
use practical justification statements linked to clinical development
align your request with recognised echo learning frameworks
Approval depends on your local department, role, training needs and study budget process.

"A fantastic course geared towards ensuring maximal time on the simulator getting acquainted with TOE. The prioritisation of hands on time allowed us to get far more familiar with TOE probe handling and image acquisition than would likely have been possible without many months of intermittent and sporadic practice. It's clear the faculty have worked extremely hard on both the course itself and the accompanying resources and it shows in how the course was efficiently run and the quality of the materials provided."
Dr Matt Boylan
EM/PHEM Consultant
"Excellent course with a high level of supervised simulator practice. Shock assessment and RESCUE TOE of particular relevance to critical care personnel. Felt able to confidently work through the shock and basic 11 view protocols by the end of the course. Great introduction to TOE."
Dr Poornima Rajagopal
Internal Medicine Trainee
"I found the TOE course to be exceptionally useful, practical, and clinically relevant. What truly sets this programme apart is its strong emphasis on hands-on, simulator-based training - with over 10–11 hours dedicated to practical sessions in small groups. This structure ensured that the majority of the weekend was spent actively practising probe manipulation, acquiring standard views, and consolidating learning in a highly supportive environment."

Ready to Master TOE with Confidence?
Whether you’re aiming to improve your procedural confidence, prepare for advanced imaging roles, or simply understand TOE anatomy and pathology interpretation better – this focused two-day training will transform your skills.
Ideal for:
-
Anaesthesia and ICU clinicians incorporating TOE into routine clinical practice
-
Cardiology trainees and registrars beginning TOE exposure
-
Echocardiographers and cardiac physiologists expanding into TOE imaging
-
Emergency and acute care doctors needing TOE familiarity for critical care decisions
-
Clinicians preparing for BSE or EACVI accreditation who want strong foundational scanning technique
If you’ve ever said “I understand TOE images but wish I could actually practise,” this course is for you.
This Is Where Most Clinicians Get Stuck
You can:
- Attend another lecture-based course
- Leave with a certificate – but still hesitate at the probe
- Spend months trying to build confidence through sporadic exposure
Or:
Fix it properly – in two focused days of structured, supervised practice
