A private, two-day simulator intensive for clinicians who want to consolidate TOE through dedicated probe time, continuous consultant feedback and training shaped around their individual clinical needs.
Nobody else is in the room. You can slow down, repeat an acquisition, ask the questions that usually remain unasked and correct technique without performing for a group.
Applications are reviewed individually. Suitable dates are agreed before any payment is taken.
Why the private format exists
TOE is a practical skill. Progress requires repetition, precise correction and the freedom to be uncertain while technique develops. For some clinicians, particularly those learning TOE later in their career, complete privacy makes that process easier and more productive.
A consultant, clinical lead or senior clinician may be learning a new probe while working alongside colleagues they usually supervise. That can affect which questions are asked, how freely mistakes are explored and how much technique is genuinely tested.
Occasional cases in theatre, critical care or the echo laboratory can build familiarity. They may not provide the deliberate repetition needed to consolidate probe handling, orientation and systematic acquisition.
During clinical work, the immediate responsibility is completing the study safely and answering the clinical question. Teaching, repeated acquisition and detailed technical correction can therefore be limited by the needs of the service.
What private training changes
There is no audience, simulator rotation or group pace. Acquisitions can be repeated, stopped and corrected in real time. The scenarios, level of explanation and progression are shaped around your existing experience, clinical setting and development priorities.
Fit and suitability
The strongest fit is a clinician with foundational echocardiography knowledge and a clear reason to improve TOE acquisition, interpretation or reporting. Previous hands-on TOE experience is helpful, but it is not essential.
You are moving into a role, service or supervisory position where TOE knowledge is increasingly relevant, but your practical acquisition experience has not developed at the same pace.
You have observed or performed TOE studies but want a more systematic approach to orientation, probe manipulation, image optimisation, interpretation and reporting.
You are working towards BSE or EACVI TOE accreditation, expanding into peri-operative or critical care TOE, or returning to practice after a period of limited exposure.
Entry point
You do not need extensive previous TOE experience. However, the programme assumes an existing understanding of echocardiographic anatomy, image orientation and core Doppler principles. It is not an introduction to ultrasound.
Scope boundary
The programme focuses on systematic acquisition, image optimisation, clinical interpretation and structured reporting. It does not cover advanced three-dimensional acquisition, post-processing or structural intervention guidance.

Dr Mansour has more than 20 years of experience in echocardiography and advanced cardiac imaging. He is Clinical Lead of a fully BSE-accredited echocardiography laboratory across all modalities and holds EACVI accreditation in transthoracic echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and cardiac MRI.

Every part of the Private Intensive is delivered personally by Dr Mansour. There is no faculty rotation and no delegation of supervision, allowing feedback and progression to remain consistent throughout both days.

The programme is not formally accredited or endorsed by a professional society. The certificate records 14 hours of structured CPD. It does not confer practitioner accreditation or replace supervised clinical training, local competency assessment or governance.

The Intensive combines a defined clinical framework with personalised emphasis based on your experience, objectives and learning needs. It is structured, but it is not a one-size-fits-all timetable.
Before you attend
Your current TOE exposure and objectives are reviewed before the programme so that the practical training can begin at the right level.
Day one
Build a systematic TOE examination through repeated, consultant-observed simulator practice with correction as you scan.
Day two
Apply the acquisition framework to clinically relevant scenarios, with attention to interpretation, limitations, escalation and communication.
After the Intensive
Leave with a clear account of your current performance and practical resources to support continued supervised development.

Questions before you apply
The application is reviewed individually because the programme must be appropriate for your current experience and intended clinical setting.
It is designed for clinicians with foundational echocardiography knowledge and a clear need to develop or consolidate practical TOE. This may include consultants, anaesthetists, intensivists, cardiology trainees, senior cardiac physiologists and clinicians preparing for further TOE progression or accreditation.
Extensive previous TOE experience is not required. However, you should already understand basic echocardiographic anatomy, image orientation and core Doppler principles. The programme is not an introduction to ultrasound or general echocardiography.
Training takes place on a high-fidelity TOE simulator in a private 1:1 environment. The same consultant delivers the full programme across both days, allowing acquisition to be observed, repeated and corrected continuously.
No. There is no patient contact or patient scanning. All practical acquisition is performed using the TOE simulator. Simulator training supports technical development but does not replace supervised clinical scanning in your workplace.
More than 70% of the 16-hour programme is devoted to hands-on simulator training. The remaining time supports preparation, interpretation, reporting, feedback and clinically relevant discussion.

You receive a certificate recording 14 hours of structured CPD. This records participation and does not confer practitioner accreditation, independent competency or clinical authorisation.
It can support development of systematic acquisition, interpretation and structured reporting for clinicians working towards further TOE progression. It does not replace the complete requirements of BSE or EACVI accreditation, supervised clinical practice, logbook completion or local competency assessment.

The feedback identifies strengths and areas for continued supervised development rather than providing formal competency sign-off.
